How to Get from Phuket Airport to Patong
The Phuket Smart Bus connects Phuket Airport with Patong for 100 baht per person. It is a good choice if you can manage your luggage and the journey from the bus stop to your accommodation. For a direct drop-off, choose an airport taxi, Grab or a pre-booked transfer. Your arrival time, group size and exact address matter more than the headline fare.
Information checked on 30 September 2026. Published fares are distinguished from estimates below; confirm departure times and individual transfer quotes before travelling.
Compare your transport options
| Option | Cost | Most useful when | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phuket Smart Bus | 100 baht per person | You want a low-cost journey and can reach your accommodation from a stop | Scheduled departures and a separate final walk or ride |
| Metered airport taxi | Approximately 700–800 baht per vehicle including the reported airport surcharge; an estimate, not a quote | You want a direct ride without arranging one beforehand | Confirm the meter and additional charges at the counter |
| Grab | Check the app for your destination and vehicle | You prefer booking and communicating through an app | Follow the assigned airport pickup instructions |
| Pre-booked private transfer | Provider quote | You need an agreed meeting point, vehicle size or child seat | Confirm waiting time and flight-delay terms |
| Shared minivan | Ask the counter for the current per-person fare | You are travelling alone and want to compare an alternative to the bus | Confirm departure time and whether your address is included |
The bus fare is published by Phuket Smart Bus. The taxi estimate comes from Phuket101’s airport transfer guide, updated 29 March 2026. Grab explains its pricing and pickup process on its Phuket Airport page. All
Taking the Phuket Smart Bus to Patong
Choose the southbound Airport–Rawai route, which serves Patong on the way. You do not need to travel to Rawai or change buses in Phuket Town. The operator lists this separately from its Bus Terminal–Patong service, so check the route before boarding. See the official route and timetable page .
Find the airport boarding point
The operator’s airport-stop guide, dated 17 September 2026, places the stop outside the Domestic Terminal at Exit 3. After collecting your baggage, follow the signs towards that terminal and exit. International arrivals should allow time to reach the domestic side before departure. If the route is unclear, ask an airport information desk for the Phuket Smart Bus stop.
Pay on board
The airport route has a flat fare of 100 baht. The operator accepts cash, contactless Visa, Mastercard and JCB, plus Thai banking-app QR payments. Its payment page also lists Apple Pay and Google Pay. No special bus app is required to pay; carrying the exact cash fare gives you a useful backup.
Choose your Patong stop before boarding
The operator lists Bangla Police Box and Patong Electricity Office among its Patong stops. Check the stop served in your direction against your accommodation’s map pin, then show the driver your destination if you need help. A place described as being “in Patong” may still require a further ride from the stop.
Before committing to the bus, compare the final walking route with the luggage you have. If you would need another taxi after getting off, include that cost when comparing the bus with a direct car.
Check the departure that fits your arrival
Open the operator’s timetable and use its live-tracking link after collecting your bags. The operator notes that timings can vary with traffic. Your flight’s landing time is not your bus-ready time: allow for arrival procedures, baggage collection and reaching the stop. Timetable
Taking an airport taxi
A taxi is a straightforward choice when you want to go directly to your accommodation. Phuket101’s March 2026 guide estimates the metered journey to Patong at 600–700 baht, plus a 100-baht airport surcharge. Treat the resulting 700–800-baht total as a budgeting reference rather than a guaranteed fare.
At the counter, show your full address and establish whether you are buying a metered journey or a fixed-price transfer. For a metered trip, confirm the surcharge. For a fixed-price service, ask for the total covering your actual destination and luggage. Keep the booking slip or receipt until you arrive.
For a group, compare the whole vehicle price with the combined bus fares. Four fare-paying passengers would spend 400 baht on the Smart Bus before any onward transport; divide your actual car quote by four to compare the cost per person.
Using Grab from Phuket Airport
Grab supports airport pickups at Phuket International Airport. Enter your accommodation’s exact location, select a vehicle that fits your passengers and bags, and check the fare before booking. Grab advertises upfront fares, with an exception for GrabTaxi.
Use the pickup point shown for your booking and follow the app’s walking directions. If the meeting point is unclear, message the driver before moving elsewhere. Match the registration and driver details to the booking before getting in.
Compare the app’s live quote with the airport counter’s offer for the same destination and vehicle capacity. A published fare for Phuket Town is not a reliable quote for Patong.
Booking a private transfer or checking a shared minivan
A pre-booked transfer is worth considering when you want to settle the arrival arrangements in advance. Send the provider your flight number, arrival date, accommodation address, passenger count and luggage details. Request written confirmation of:
- The total price and vehicle capacity.
- The meeting point and contact method if you cannot find the driver.
- Included waiting time and what happens if your flight is delayed.
- Any required child seat or accessibility arrangement.
Shared passenger vans are also listed among the airport’s transport options to Patong, Kata and Karon.
Before paying for a shared van, ask when it will depart, whether it drops you at your exact address, how many stops are expected and whether your luggage is included. Choose it only after comparing those answers with the next bus departure and a direct car quote.
How long to allow for the journey
Phuket101 lists Patong at approximately 38 km from the airport, with a car journey of about 50–60 minutes in normal conditions and up to around 90 minutes during rush hour. These are road-travel estimates, excluding arrival procedures and waiting for your vehicle.
For the bus, use the current timetable’s arrival at your chosen Patong stop, then add waiting time and the final journey to your accommodation. Avoid arranging a tightly timed activity immediately after arrival.
Choosing transport for a late arrival
Check the final airport departure on the operator’s timetable for your travel date. Do not assume that landing before the last bus means you can catch it. If the connection is tight, arrange a private pickup or plan to compare the taxi counter and Grab once you are ready to leave.
Save your accommodation’s name, full address, map pin and arrival contact before flying. With those details ready, you can choose the next suitable bus or book a direct ride without having to resolve your destination at the airport.
