Best Time to Visit Da Nang
March to May is the best overall window to visit Da Nang. For a trip combining sightseeing and beach time, our recommendation is March or April. Summer suits travelers who prioritize the beach and tolerate heat, while September to December calls for more flexibility around rain.
Vietnam Tourism recommends March to May among the city's best visiting periods. The month you choose within that window should depend on how much time you want to spend walking, swimming or exploring outdoors.
Choose your dates around the trip you want
For a first visit: March or April
We would start a first-trip search with March and April. These months offer a practical balance for an itinerary that mixes the waterfront with city sights. Plan your most demanding outdoor activity in the morning, leave the afternoon flexible, and avoid making every day depend on perfect beach conditions.
For example, give a morning to Marble Mountains and keep another for the beach. Vietnam Tourism recommends an early start at Marble Mountains and identifies the Cham Museum of Sculpture as a major cultural stop. That gives you a useful indoor alternative when you want a break from the weather.
For a beach-focused holiday: consider summer
June to August is another option if beach time matters more than comfortable all-day walking. Vietnam Tourism describes these months as having relatively little rain and generally clear, calm seas. Those are seasonal tendencies, not a guarantee that swimming will be suitable on a particular day. Follow beach flags and lifeguard instructions.
Build a summer itinerary around early outings, a shaded or indoor midday break, and activities later in the day. If you are traveling with people who dislike heat, compare spring dates before committing to summer.
For a cooler city break: consider February
February is worth considering when walking and sightseeing take priority over a hot beach holiday. Vietnam Tourism's broader Da Nang guide recommends February to May and notes that early-year evenings can require a light jacket, with occasional drizzle. Pack for some variation rather than assuming every day will feel like summer.
Da Nang weather by month: the figures behind the decision
The table shows monthly climate normals published by the Japan Meteorological Agency. Temperature means the average across days and nights, not the afternoon high. Rainfall is the average monthly total.

| January | 21.7°C | 99.8 mm |
| February | 22.6°C | 16.5 mm |
| March | 24.4°C | 34.4 mm |
| April | 26.6°C | 55.0 mm |
| May | 28.8°C | 53.3 mm |
| June | 30.0°C | 55.2 mm |
| July | 29.4°C | 99.8 mm |
| August | 29.3°C | 143.1 mm |
| September | 27.9°C | 410.4 mm |
| October | 26.3°C | 692.5 mm |

September to December needs a different kind of itinerary
For planning purposes, treat September to December as the wetter window, with October the wettest month in the station averages above. This is why we would choose spring over autumn for a short trip whose main purpose is the beach.
Season labels can be confusing: tourism guides do not all place the rainy-season boundaries in the same months. The local tourism authority's 2024 overview describes September to December as the rainy season. Use the monthly figures alongside seasonal labels when comparing dates.
The practical concern is more than getting caught in a shower. Vietnam Tourism warns that tropical storms affect Central Vietnam from September and that nearby Hoi An can experience heavy rain and flooding in autumn. If you plan to combine the two destinations, allow room to rearrange outings.
A wet-season visit can still suit a flexible city break. Keep museum visits, meals and cafés as alternatives, and avoid scheduling an outdoor excursion into every available slot. Choose accommodation and transport terms you are comfortable with if plans change. A lower quote is only useful if the trip still offers the experience you want.
Factor in crowds and actual prices
Good beach weather does not necessarily mean a quiet visit. Vietnam Airlines identifies June to August as a busy tourism period in Da Nang, with crowded beaches and attractions. If you prefer a less intense atmosphere, compare dates outside that period and check whether your shortlist overlaps a major event.
There is no verified cheapest month established by the sources used here. Compare the total cost of flights and accommodation for your exact dates, using the same room standard, baggage allowance and cancellation terms. Try shifting arrival and departure by a few days before sacrificing your preferred weather window.
If an event is the reason for your visit, confirm its dates with the organizer before booking. A general seasonal guide should not be treated as the current year's event calendar.
Before you commit to a month
Start by choosing the activity you would be most disappointed to miss. For a mixed first visit, shortlist March and April. For a summer beach trip, plan around heat and busier conditions. For autumn or winter dates, make sure you would still enjoy the visit if outdoor plans needed to change.
Close to departure, replace seasonal expectations with current forecasts. Check Vietnam's National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting for weather and marine updates, then follow local advice during your stay .
