How Well Travel's Deposit Return Guarantee Works (Full Process)
How Deposits Work on Well Travel
When you book a long-term rental (1–12 months) in Vietnam, Thailand, or Indonesia, you'll pay a security deposit. It’s standard practice – protects the host if something’s damaged during your stay.

Where Does the Deposit Go?
Your deposit goes straight to the host’s bank account. Well Travel doesn’t hold it in escrow. The host gets the money before or at check-in, same for every booking. Simple, consistent, and clear from the start.
When Will I Get My Deposit Back?
After check-out, the host inspects the place. If everything’s fine (normal wear and tear expected), you get the full deposit back on check-out day or within 24 hours. The host can only deduct for clear damage beyond normal use – and they have to show proof (photos, receipts).
What About Cancellations?
If you cancel your booking before check-in, the deposit is not returned. Since the deposit has already been transferred to the host to secure your reservation, it’s non-refundable upon cancellation. This applies regardless of the reason – so make sure you’re committed before booking. If you have questions about cancellation terms, check your contract or reach out to us via chat.
What if the Host Doesn’t Return It?
If the host doesn’t return your deposit without a valid reason, we step in. First, we contact them on your behalf – usually resolves it quickly. But if the host is dishonest or unresponsive, our deposit guarantee kicks in: we reimburse you directly from company funds. No insurance, no third parties. All hosts follow the same rules, so there’s no confusion. If a host repeatedly breaks the rules, they’re out – but that rarely happens because our hosts know their responsibilities.
What the Guarantee Covers
- Guaranteed follow-up: If a host doesn’t return your deposit without a good reason, we help.
- Company-backed reimbursement: If they still don’t pay, Well Travel refunds you from our own pocket.
- Fair process: Hosts must explain deductions and show evidence.
- Standard rules: Every host follows the same deposit policy – you know what to expect.
This guarantee doesn’t cover disputes where the host has a reasonable explanation (e.g., proven damage). In those cases, we review the evidence and encourage open communication between both sides.
Tips to Protect Your Deposit
- Take photos of the property at check-in and check-out – document everything.
- Read the contract carefully, especially deposit return timelines.
- If you run into issues during your stay, chat with us. We’ll talk to the host and help sort it out fast.
- Follow the check-in instructions we send on the day: they’ll make your arrival smooth.
- Contact us via chat if you haven’t received your deposit within 24 hours after check-out and the host hasn’t explained why.
Summary
Well Travel’s deposit system is straightforward. The host holds the deposit, returns it on check-out day (or within 24 hours), and we back you up with a company-funded guarantee if they don’t. No hidden fees, no escrow, no complex insurance. Just a clear process that works for renters and hosts. Questions? Our support team is happy to help via chat.
